Last year Google renamed Webmaster Tools to Search Console. The name changed, but it is still the place to tell Google about your sitemap and to see what Google thinks of your site. A quick walk-through:
- Sign in at Google Search Console with your Google account and add your website.
- Verify that the site is yours. Google offers several ways: an HTML file you upload, a meta tag on your homepage, a DNS record, or your Google Analytics account.
- Open Crawl → Sitemaps and press Add/Test Sitemap. Type the address of your sitemap, usually just sitemap.xml, and submit it.
- Come back after a few days. The report shows how many pages your sitemap lists and how many of them Google has indexed.
Note that Search Console sees http and https, and the address with and without www, as different sites. Add the version your site really uses, and the sitemap that belongs to it.
With our automatic upload your sitemap keeps the same address, so you only have to submit it once. Google picks up the new version by itself.
